I was in leadership positions in the healthcare industry for over 30 years. I understand why it is difficult to find the motivation to do what is right for our bodies. Women are focused on everything but ourselves. Our careers, our partners, children, family, friends, the list is endless. Now, pile on top of that incredible stress, crappy eating, no sleep, … Work/life balance? Time for ME? Pppffftt. It’s all so overwhelming.
Have you been in a work environment that sucked everything out of you? I was. A peer, who was another member of the executive management team, was constantly criticizing and bullying my staff. It seemed like I spent all my energy protecting my staff – providing evidence of the incredible work they did day in and day out. Seriously, just figuring out how to maneuver the office politics became all-consuming.
On a particularly trying day, while in a meeting with my staff and the rest of the Executive Management Team, the bully began openly criticizing and complaining about one of my Directors and did not have the correct facts. I challenged him and the conversation got heated. He proceeded to bring into question my management and leadership capabilities. This all happened in front of my team and my boss, the CEO of the company.
- I. Was. Speechless.
- I was angry.
- I was exhausted.
A Director came to my office after the incident and said, “I know that you protect us from all of that bad stuff. I don’t know how you do it. Thank you.”
Boom. There it was. It hit me right between the eyes. The reason I couldn’t find the motivation to take care of ME was because I was spent. Totally depleted.
I wasn’t sleeping well, gaining weight, and couldn’t see the positive in any situation. I found myself reaching into my secret junk food drawer more and more (you know we all have one). My go-to? Peanut M & Ms.
I couldn’t figure out how motivate myself to take care of ME! My family was suffering, my work was suffering, and so was I. But I could not find that motivation to make changes – to say YES to me and a to a healthier lifestyle.
When I stepped on the scale, 20 pounds heavier than I am today, I knew I had to do something about my health. I needed to find that motivation. I needed a MAP!
It was THAT day I became a student of finding the motivation to take care of my health and living a healthy lifestyle. I enrolled in a Health Coaching program, studied, applied what I learned, and guess what?
It worked!
I learned how to get and stay motivated, how to take action to create and implement positive habits and make my new habits permanent. I now have the tools readily available to stay motivated to take care of my health, manage my stress, and do what is right for my body. I feel better than I have in years!
That is why I created the Create My Healthy Habits MAP 12-Week Journey. It is my mission to help women who put everybody else before themselves and cannot find the motivation to do what is right for their body. I work with them to create their MAP for the Motivation, Action, and Permanence they need to create and implement their healthy habits that stick! The cool thing? Support and accountability are built right into my program! We are a team!
